Democrats are in control now!!!
I am excited to know that Democrats have finally taken over the House of Representatives and the Senate.
This 2006 election year has brought about a significant change in our government with Democrats now being the majority. Since 1994, Republicans have held the majority due to the midterm sweep that year. Have they lost that now due to all the events occurring since September 11, 2001? Well I happen to think so.
This past Tuesday, Democrats picked up at least 28 seats in the House of Representatives, giving them control of the chamber. (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/08/election.house/index.html)
President Bush is extremely disappointed in this change but claims he will work with the Democratic party.
The question of the day now is "what's next?" As a Democrat, I totally agree with the words of Democratic Gov. Tom Vilsack of Iowa, "Americans sent a clear message on Tuesday. They want leaders who will take this country in a new direction."
I personally believe our new leaders will help to end the war in Iraq quicker and get our troops home. In addition, they will assist in implementing swifter resolve in other areas such as education and the economy.

I still don't understand what the "new direction" is. Now in power, the Democrats are going to find it isn't as easy to get out of Iraq safely and sensibly as everyone claimed it was in the campaign.

I believe the solution of put the Dems in charge and there will be a great turn-around was too simplistic. This has been demonstrated since they have been "in power." It was wrong to invade Iraq, but now that we are there, it is a complex issue to leave with the country intact. Listen to the Dem-Presidential candidates as they refuse to put a deadline on our exit if elected. Politics as usual Endia.
